Knee Pain When Bending

This type of knee pain is medically termed as arthritis. A skilled physician may well trace the clues of origin of such pain & so the way of relief can be suggested also. Mobility of the knee can be affected number of commonly observed conditions. It may be in the form of swelling if any serious injury occurred in the internal structure.

In order to determine the cause’s proper examination of the knee join is absolutely necessary. Knee joint is that between thigh & leg. Such joint bends back & forth in one plane. There are three bones those come together at knee joint the shine & thigh bone & the knee cap. A fourth bone fibula is just located at the side of shine bone. There are two types of cartilage. ‘Articular’ cartilage covers the bone, when this cartilage is worn away then Knee Pain When Bending is caused. The other cartilage is known as meniscus, it is a shock absorber. Also injury to medical collateral ligament causes such pain.

A tendon connects muscle to the bone. When muscle contracts the tendons are pulled. Knee joints are mostly affected by two groups of muscles. The quadriceps muscle provides strength & power with knee extension while hamstring muscles allow strength in case of flexion i.e while bending. The patellar tendon at the front of the knee is part of quadriceps muscles. This pain is also caused by meniscus tear, Menicus is made of tough cartilage, the one inside the knee is the medical one, the other rests outer part of the knee known as the lateral meniscus.

It functions to distribute body weight across the knee joint. In its absence the body weight becomes uneven thus the balance will be lost. This part is nourished by small blood vessels, but it has a large area in the centre where direct blood supply is not there. It causes the main problem in case of an injury this area it takes much time & prolonged treatment in order to heal. It can also termed as cartilage tear. Generally pain & swelling is the initial symptom of Knee pain When Bending that is followed by clicking within the knee& limited motion of the knee joint. A patient will be evaluated for possible meniscus tear. A careful examination will reveal whether the pain is for the same reason or due to other conditions.

When surgical treatment is required, the usual treatment is to trim the torn portion known as menisectomy in medical circles. Again transplantation is another surgical option. Following the injury icing is the initial stage of treatment; it is effective for sprains, strains or bruises. But the effect of icing stays for 48 hours only. One icing session takes 15-20 minutes then it’s better to keep a gap of 45 minutes & and before the second session make sure that that part of body is warmed up. Another way of immediate relief is talking cortisone injections; it is a type of steroid. In the long run arthroscopy surgery has proved to be effective. Also the patient has to undergo various exercises at the post surgery period.
